Innovation is a new and growing area of interest. Because of a lack of understanding of the innovation process, it is considered as an art. However, better understanding of the mechanics of innovation is desired. Currently, R&D driven innovation is less than 5% effective. Recent developments in information technology, customer interaction, and demand for custom solutions has led to reduced life cycle, development time, and demand for innovation.
In order to accelerate innovation it is imperative that the field of innovation be developed, and the art be transformed into science, which requires the study of many areas including the human brain. The science of innovation is a study of the function of the brain, exacting of designs, perfection of the discovery process, pattern recognition, neuroscience, analytics, measurements, heuristic algorithms, optimization, and evaluation.
