Energy resources derived from the earth will provide the dominant share of energy for human use for the foreseeable future. Effective and efficient stewardship of these global assets is critical to sustain current economic prosperity and to enable transitions to alternative sources of energy. Successful stewardship depends not only on advances in science and engineering, but also on implementation of economic and management theory as it relates to energy assets and the firms engaged in their extraction.

Energy Exploration and Exploitation is a research journal focused on the economics and management of the energy exploration and production enterprise. Included in its energy scope are oil, gas, coal, uranium, geothermal and other forms of energy derived from the earth. The journal seeks original articles within this energy scope on the following sample of economic and management topics:

Exploration, Appraisal, and Formation Evaluation Strategy

Capital Budgeting and Portfolio Management

Project Valuation and Selection

Field Development Optimization

Decision Analysis and Value of Information

Risk Management, Risk Preferences

Cost Estimating

Project Management and PMPs

Benchmarking (project and corporate performance)

Input Market Analysis and Contracting

Industrial Organization, Interfirm Behavior

Safety, Environment, and Sustainability

Politics, Concessions, and Regulation

A full range of articles, from purely theoretical work to surveys and case studies, will be considered. Energy Exploration and Exploitation is primarily interested in research articles that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Therefore, empirical studies based on a well developed theoretical foundation, where results are broadly applicable across energy sectors, are preferred. All papers are subjected to the peer review process.
