Annual Review of Golf Coaching 2008

editor: Simon Jenkins
published annually • ISBN: 0906522 528 • £25/$45

vision & mission statement

Most Tour players now have a number of different coaches to help them with the mental, physical and technical sides of the game. Today, therefore, it is more relevant to talk of 'Golf Coaching' rather than simply 'Golf Instruction' or 'Golf Teaching'. The mission of this technical and peer-reviewed publication is to bridge the gap between scientific and practical knowledge in golf. The articles in the Annual Review can be placed into five categories: Swing Technique and Biomechanics; Technology & Feedback; Psychology of Performance and Practice; Golf Development and Coach Education; Strength and Conditioning. The best of recent research is brought to the lay reader along with expert contributions from leading figures in the coaching world. This book will be required reading for coaches who themselves wish to take advantage of the latest developments, and will appeal to all serious amateurs who want to be aware of what is happening at the cutting edge of their sport. All academic departments of sports science and physical education will find this book a very worthwhile addition to their library.

Among the contributors are Dr Bob Rotella, who consults to players on PGA Tours on the mental side of the game; and Dr Gary Wiren, the only active member of both the PGA to have been inducted into the PGA Hall of Fame and the Golf Magazine World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame. The Editor, Dr Simon Jenkins, is Principal Lecturer in Sports Coaching with the Carnegie Faculty at Leeds Metropolitan University and has formerly been an Associate Coach with the English Golfing Union. He also edits the International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, and is the author of the Sports Science Handbook.

The Annual Review of Golf Coaching will promote reflective practice in the golf coaching community and become a key source of knowledge for continuing professional development. It will also provide global, economic and political overviews of the golf coaching business.

The review process of the Annual Review of Golf Coaching is 'open,' which means that both authors and reviewers know each other's identity; and acknowledgment of the reviewers' work is footnoted on the first page of each article. This process has proved to be successful for the International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching.
